Researcher img Cruz, Raquel

Supervisor img --

Abstract img This work focus on central issues about poverty and the understanding of social exclusion and inequalities. The intensity of its expressions and the individual perceptions towards the condition of “being poor” and living in poverty were the guidelines of this research. Understanding the individuals relation with poverty and the social support they receive, become central dimensions of this analysis and its contextualization in modernity became the major challenge. Risk and uncertainty play a crucial role in the attempt of social and economic “rehabilitation” of this population facing new social, professional and personal challenges. To relight the debate about the central questions concerning poverty and the importance of hearing the “poor”, their experiences, representations, needs and routines this work endeavor to reinforce the magnitude of this theme although its longer and substantial legacy in the scientific field. Even though, there is much more to search in the empirical field, destroying “myths” and capturing the singularities that may support new types and strategies in the social intervention actions.
