The Centre for Research and Studies in Sociology (CIES-Iscte) announces new leaders in two of its research groups, reinforcing its commitment to excellence in research and the analysis of emerging social issues.
Politics and Citizenship: Focus on Society-Institution Relations
The “Politics and Citizenship” research group now has Guya Accornero as coordinator and Ana Espírito Santo as co-coordinator. This group is dedicated to studying the interactions between civil society, political institutions and elites, analyzing how these dynamics influence public policies and governance processes. It also works closely with the Democracy Observatory and Political Representation, a research structure that combines advanced methodologies with the examination of central issues in contemporary democracy.
Gender, Life Course and Health: Multidimensional Approach and Strategic Connections
The “Gender, Life Course and Health” group is now under the coordination of Elsa Pegado and Magda Nico. This group structures its research in three main areas: 1) Family, parenting and gender issues, investigating changes in family dynamics and social identities; 2) Transitions and life contexts, from childhood to youth, including intergenerational interactions; 3) Health and ethics, addressing the practices of health professionals, the experiences of patients, risks in the use of medication and problems related to substance abuse.
The group actively collaborates with the Nascer.pt and LIM research structures, which combine innovative methodological approaches with the analysis of contemporary social problems, strengthening its capacity to generate applicable and interdisciplinary knowledge.
