João Ferreira de Almeida, professor, researcher at CIES and former president of Iscte, passed away on June 16, 2022 in Lisbon.

His legacy is invaluable with significant contributions to the sociological study of inequalities and labor, social classes, stratification, social exclusion and poverty, the study of values and social representations, identities and trajectories of youth, education, rural studies, environmental studies, democracy, and economic and social development. His vast work has marked sociology in Portugal and several generations of researchers.

It is with great regret that we bid farewell to Professor João Ferreira de Almeida, whose scientific work and kindness marked so many of us and will be greatly missed by the CIES-Iscte community.

The wake will take place on June 17, starting at 5pm, at the Santa Joana Princesa Church in Lisbon. The funeral will take place on the 18th, at Olivais Cemetery, at 12 noon.
