Social Autopsy for Maternal Mortality
Interactive Workshop | January 17, 2025

“Creative Dialogues: Participatory Methodologies in Sexual and Reproductive Health Research” is a cycle of interactive workshops that aim to provide a space for sharing and critical discussion on the challenges and opportunities of using different participatory methods and approaches in sexual and reproductive health research. The workshops aim not only to stimulate the search for new methodological proposals and promote dialog between different areas of knowledge, but also to intensify research and action networks and boost contributions to public policies.

The first methodological workshop will take place on January 17, 2025, between 3pm and 4:30pm in Lisbon (Portugal), through the Zoom Platform. This session, led by Cláudia Álvarez-Franco (Universidad de Antioquia, Colombia) focuses on Social Autopsy for Maternal Mortality, a methodology that investigates social, behavioral and health system factors that contribute to maternal deaths, combining qualitative interviews with verbal autopsies (Kalter et. al., 2011).

This workshop will be in Spanish, with the possibility of participation in Portuguese. Registration is free but compulsory, with a maximum of 15 participants. Priority will be given to registrations from nascer.pt members, but registration is open to anyone interested, from any scientific field. Registrations can be made using this form.

Cláudia Álvarez-Franco is a nurse with a Master's degree in Nursing from the Universidad del Valle (Colombia) and a PhD in Nursing from the Universidad de Antioquia (Colombia), with a focus on qualitative research, gender and the history of nursing. She is currently a Professor and Researcher at the Faculty of Nursing, University of Antioquia.
