CIES-Iscte is leading a new international research project to deepen knowledge about the public reception of science and technology. Entitled PuReSC - Public REception of Science and Technology, the study is coordinated by researcher Marta Entradas and involves collaborations with academic institutions in the UK, Italy and Germany.

The project is funded by the Foundation for Science and Technology (€250,000) to study how the public relates to scientific communication carried out by universities over the next three years.

The project's international team includes:

  • London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE) - Prof. Martin Bauer
  • University of Trento - Prof. Giuseppe Pellegrini
  • University of Düsseldorf - Prof. Frank Marcinkowski

The results will contribute to a more informed debate on the role of public engagement in the university context - a dimension that still lacks robust empirical evidence.

PuReSC represents a significant step in strengthening universities' roles as active agents in science communication, promoting a closer and more participatory relationship with society, and protecting university autonomy.
