ABSTRACT
One of the most striking patterns of recent migration in the EU is Nepali mobility to and through Europe, and Portugal in particular. Yet, this story remains largely untold, let alone understood, especially from the perspective of Nepali migrants themselves. In this talk, Josef Neubauer, doctoral researcher at the University for Continuing Education Krems, draws from extensive fieldwork across Lisbon, Nepal, and Malta to offer new insights on the multifarious roles and meanings Portugal plays and carries within young Nepalis’ aspirations and migration trajectories.
